The TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) Certificate Course introduces participants to modern teaching methods. The main content of the course focuses on methods and techniques to help language learners communicate and uses practical, hands-on instruction to help participants become teachers of English. A TEFL Certificate is the most basic qualification needed to teach English as a foreign language in Malta.

GV’s TEFL Induction course is accredited and regulated by the ELT Council Malta.
The main requirement for the course is that the applicants have a good standard of spoken and written English – candidates will be required to sit for, and pass, a pre-course language awareness test and a short interview.
The TEFL Certificate Course is a 60-hour preparation course made up of:
  • 45 hours face-to-face input, supervised planning and preparation, teaching practice, feedback, guided observation, peer observation and tutorials
  • 15 hours of reading and written-research, assignments, lesson preparation
  • 2 teaching slots
  • 3 written assignments in language skills, language awareness and professional development
The course includes topics such as:
  • The teaching and learning context
  • Developing classroom management skills
  • Helping learners to develop their communicative language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing
  • Language analysis and teaching grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation
  • Lesson planning

Minimum number of trainees in class: 7
Successful participants will need to:pass 2 Teaching Practice sessions, pass all the assignments and attend at least 80% of the course. With this certificate and an A-level in English (Grades A-C) ora pass in the TELT (Written) Exam, and a Pass in the SEPTT oral exam, you will be qualified to work as an EFL teacher in Malta.
